Wheel Bearings and Seals

Wheel bearings help ensure your tires and wheels, axle shafts, and more rotate smoothly as you drive down the road. Wheel beings include rollers or ball bearings that allow them to rotate with minimal friction, and often also include a separate bearing race that is machined smooth for proper bearing contact. Wheel seals also help keep grease inside the hub assembly from leaking from the wheel end or other rotating assemblies, and are a necessity to ensure lasting bearing and wheel end repairs.

Types of Wheel Bearings and Seals

Depending on the year and type of vehicle you drive, the wheel bearings and seals may come in a complete hub assembly. If your vehicle does not use complete hub assemblies, your wheel end may include a wheel seal, a bearing cone, and a bearing race. Some wheel bearings are also sealed and designed as a one-piece replacement for both bearing and race. Rear-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles may also include axle bearings that are part of an enclosed differential. Spindle axle nuts and spindle nut washers and retainers are also used to hold bearings and seals in place on the axle or hub and set appropriate bearing preload, and should be inspected and greased regularly to ensure they are in serviceable condition during your repairs.
