What are Fog Lights?

When driving in fog or other poor visibility or weather conditions, fog lights can be used to see the road more clearly. Fog lights are designed to cut through heavy rain, low-level fog clouds, and dust or debris in the air to increase your visibility in the fog. They are positioned differently than headlights, and are designed to shine down in front of the vehicle to illuminate road edges and road markings to avoid light reflecting off of the fog. These driving lights can help keep you safe when visibility is limited, and using them in conjunction with your headlights can dramatically improve poor-weather safety. Not all vehicles were originally equipped with fog lights, but aftermarket kits are available to add fog lights to nearly any car, truck, or SUV. If your vehicle originally had fog lights, replacement fog light lens assemblies are simple to install using the original mounting points and wiring connections on your vehicle. Because fog light assemblies are located low to the ground and are often angled downward, fog light lenses can be easily cracked and damaged by road debris, and may become cloudy and limit light transmission over the life of the vehicle. The connections and sockets in the fog light assembly may also corrode from exposure to road salt, moisture, and other environmental factors. Shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for all of your vehicle lighting needs. We carry fog light assemblies, fog light bulbs, connectors, relays, switches, and new aftermarket fog light kits for your repair or upgrade.
