What is an MAP Sensor Connector?

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures the amount of pressure or vacuum in the intake manifold, sending signals to the engine control unit to adjust fuel flow and engine timing as needed. This regulation system keeps the engine running smoothly and ensures that air is distributed appropriately to each engine cylinder. The MAP sensor connector attaches the sensor to the wiring harness to send these signals to the engine control module, allowing it to adjust the amount of fuel flow to the engine to ensure that the mixture is appropriate for optimal combustion and efficiency. If the MAP sensor connector is loose or becomes damaged, it can cause engine hesitation, rough idle, or black smoke from the tailpipe. You may also experience poor fuel mileage and performance, and the Check Engine light may activate to indicate there is a problem with the MAP sensor or sensor connector. If you notice these symptoms, inspect your vehicle's MAP sensor and MAP sensor connector for damage, or visit your local O'Reilly Auto Parts for free Check Engine light testing.
