How to Replace a Door Lock Actuator

Are your power door locks not working? If so, the problem might be your door lock actuator. The power door lock actuator is a small motor mounted inside the door that locks and unlocks the door when you use your key fob or the power door lock switches inside the vehicle. Door lock actuators may be standalone motors, or may be built into the door latch. Often if they are part of a door latch assembly, the entire assembly may need to be replaced to restore their function. A failing door lock actuator may cause unusual noises inside the door or intermittent or non-functional door locks. In some cases, an actuator that has failed or become stuck can also prevent your key from working in the lock, which may leave you locked out of your vehicle. However, a working key fob and non-working lock switches may indicate a failing power door lock switch, connector, or relay. If all your power door locks are not responding, you may also have a blown fuse. Ensuring a complete diagnosis can help you determine if the door lock actuator is the source of the problem, and your vehicle's service manual can help you complete this repair easily and properly. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we carry replacement door lock actuators, door lock switches, door lock cylinders, and other door lock components for a complete power lock repair.
