What is a Diesel Injection Pump?

A diesel injector pump is driven mechanically by the engine to create pressure that is then used by the diesel injectors, comparable to a gasoline engine's fuel pump. Diesel injectors work similarly to gasoline injectors, except that the diesel injector pump is timed with the camshaft and supplies fuel differently than a gasoline injection system. This allows for higher pressure at the injector and more efficient fuel delivery as the engine needs it to maintain performance and engine operation.
