Your vehicle's air intake system draws oxygen from outside the car into the engine's intake manifold, which is mixed with fuel in an appropriate ratio for combustion. A cold air intake kit is an aftermarket modification that can be added to your vehicle's air intake system to increase engine horsepower, fuel efficiency, and torque. Cold air intake kits replace the factory air filter and air filter housing and often require little modification to install properly and securely. Installing a cold air intake moves the air filter farther away from the heat produced by the running engine, allowing continuous low-temperature airflow to enter the engine's intake. Cooler air is denser and contains more oxygen concentration than the warm air that the vehicle's factory intake system may have been pulling from the engine bay. This oxygen-rich air allows the engine to burn fuel more efficiently during the combustion cycle, ultimately leading to an increase in overall power and gas mileage. Cold air intakes can also increase the amount of air entering your engine by increasing the size of the airflow tubes attached to the throttle body, delivering less restricted and more consistent airflow into the engine. Increased air flow into your vehicle's engine allows it to "breathe" better, increasing your engine's performance. Cold air intake kits are considered performance parts and can be custom-fit for specific vehicles and applications. While cold air intake kits are relatively easy to install, they may void your manufacturer's warranty, so always check your warranty terms before modifying your vehicle. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a variety of universal and custom-fit cold air intake kits and oiled air filters to help you easily upgrade your vehicle's performance.
