Catalytic Converter Gasket Leaks

The catalytic converter gasket is a sealing component used in the exhaust system to provide an air-tight seal for the inlet and outlet of the catalytic converter. This prevents exhaust gasses from escaping to help maintain the efficiency of the catalytic converter. However, some vehicles may have the converter welded onto the exhaust pipe and do not require this part, so be sure to check your service manual or inspect the design of your exhaust system before performing any repairs. Over time, catalytic converter gaskets for bolt-on converters may wear out or suffer damage due to heat, vibrations, or exposure to corrosive elements. This can cause an exhaust leak and may cause noise, poor gas mileage, vibration, loss of power, or the smell of gas from the exhaust system.
