What Do Exhaust Springs Do?
Your vehicle's exhaust system is responsible for removing the harmful exhaust fumes away from the engine and vehicle cabin, and is made up of a system of pipes and other components. Exhaust bolts, studs, and springs connect and secure various parts of the vehicle's exhaust system. Exhaust springs hold the muffler onto the end of the exhaust pipe and prevent exhaust leaks, while still allowing for some flexibility between the pipe and the muffler during engine and vehicle movement. Most of the exhaust system is located underneath the vehicle. All of your exhaust system parts, including the exhaust bolts, studs, and springs, are more subject to wear and corrosion than other vehicle parts due to their location. Over time, the exhaust bolts and studs may also wear down due to tension and stress caused by high temperatures and harsh conditions. If you hear loud, knocking noises coming from underneath the car, smell exhaust in the cabin, or notice performance issues, your exhaust bolts, studs, or springs may have come loose or broken and should be replaced as soon as possible. Maintaining the exhaust system and ensuring there are no exhaust leaks can help keep your exhaust system performing its best and your vehicle on the road. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we offer a wide selection of exhaust system parts, including exhaust bolts, studs, springs, gaskets, clamps, hangers, and heat shields for most vehicles.
