What is a Leaf Spring Shackle?

A leaf spring shackle mounts the leaf spring to the vehicle's frame, and is typically used in the leaf spring suspension of older and heavy-duty vehicles. Leaf spring shackles allow the leaf springs to stretch, expand, and adjust as the vehicle moves over bumps and uneven terrain, ensuring the length of the springs changes to accurately match any suspension movement. The shackle is a metal bracket with bushings attached on one or both ends. Over time, these bushings can wear out, or the shackle may fail due to corrosion or other damage. Damaged shackle parts may result in rattling or clunking noises from the suspension, and can cause damage to the spring or your vehicle's undercarriage. Replacing worn bushings, shackles, or other leaf spring parts can help smooth your ride and quiet suspension noise.
