What is a Brake Line?

The hydraulic brake line connects components throughout the brake system to one another and carries hydraulic fluid pressure. The brake fluid travels from the master cylinder through the hydraulic brake lines to the brake hoses that connect to the calipers or wheel cylinders, forcing the pistons to compress the brakes to stop the vehicle. Hard brake lines are used in areas that do not need to move frequently, but brake hoses are installed in areas where turning or the movement of the suspension may require flexibility. Over time, the brake lines on your vehicle may corrode, wear, or suffer damage, causing a brake fluid leak. If you notice any brake fluid leaking from your vehicle, check your brake lines, brake hoses, calipers, and master cylinder for signs of rust or brake fluid loss. If the brake lines are damaged or need to be replaced, you typically have two options: purchase pre-bent brake lines designed to fit your vehicle, or bend brake lines yourself that match the connections, length, and bends of the originals.
