An air conditioning (A/C) compressor bypass pulley is used as a replacement for a damaged or faulty A/C compressor that helps the serpentine belt run without the need for power from the compressor. Usually, your vehicle's A/C compressor is activated from inside the cabin by a switch that sends power to the A/C clutch. This pulley can not only temporarily supplement the position of the compressor, but can allow the vehicle to continue to operate if the compressor needs to be removed.
