The battery ground cable, or ground strap, connects the engine to the chassis, or in some cases, directly to the negative battery terminal. This completes the circuit for electrical devices that are grounded to the engine. When your vehicle doesn't start and refuses to hold a charge, or your lights flicker or dim, it may be time to replace your battery ground strap. Since these signs can also point to a failing battery, you may need to test your ground. Run a continuity test between the battery and the chassis. If you don't get a continuity reading, you likely have a grounding problem. For a ground strap or any other battery components you may need, O'Reilly Auto Parts has you covered. We offer battery ground strap options that fit most applications.
