Your blower motor helps transport air throughout your heating and A/C system, and out of the dashboard and cabin vents. Blower motors are usually located underneath the passenger-side dashboard, and can often be accessed without much disassembly if it needs to be replaced. The blower motor pushes air that has been passed over your A/C evaporator or heater core through your vehicle's air vents to help maintain the cabin temperature for a more comfortable ride. Car blower motors can fail over time from corrosion or excessive temperatures, which can reduce or impede air flow from the vents and cause odd noises coming from the dashboard or a burning smell coming from the air vents. A lack of air flow or blower motor operation can also be caused by a failing blower motor, blower motor resistor, or a damaged wiring connector, so be sure to inspect these components before making your repairs. If you notice melting on the blower motor resistor or its plug, there could be an issue with those components. If there are no notable signs of damage to the resistor, plug, or other connections, you may need to replace the blower motor itself. It's important to note, however, if you notice decreased performance or a lack of cold air, your car may be lacking the correct levels of refrigerant, or your cabin air filter may need to be replaced.
