Steps to Check and Refill Washer Fluid

We have several washer fluid options available, rated for different temperatures, depending on where you drive most often. There are also washer fluid formulas that feature things like bug remover, so keep this in mind when deciding which type will work best for you.

Our expert lifts the hood of a 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport S and locates the washer fluid reservoir.

Step 1: Prepare Your Vehicle

Park on a level surface, and open the hood. Locate your washer fluid reservoir. It’s typically a white plastic tank, and will often have a windshield and fluid symbol on the cap.

Do It Right: If your vehicle has a rear wiper, it’s possible that there’s a reservoir for that washer system as well.

The washer reservoir cap is removed and new washer fluid is poured into the reservoir. A funnel is used to make sure the pour is easier.

Step 2: Check Your Washer Fluid Levels

In most cases, you will be able to see the fluid level from the outside, but if needed, remove the cap. If the level is low, add some washer fluid, using a funnel to make the pour a little easier.
The windshield washer reservoir cap is replaced and the Nissan’s hood is lowered.

Step 3: Replace Your Cap

Once the reservoir is full, put the cap back on and make sure it’s secure. Close the hood.
