Replacing a Turbocharger Gasket

Turbochargers are designed to compress air that is fed to the engine to increase the density of the air for combustion, increasing both fuel efficiency and engine power. The turbocharger gaskets seal around the turbocharger inlet and outlet to contain oil and air while also withstanding the increased air pressure generated by the turbocharger. There are generally four gaskets used in a turbocharger system to seal both the inlet and outlet of the turbine and compressor. When a turbocharger gasket fails, it may result in slower acceleration, burning oil, an oil leak, or a loud whining noise. If you notice oil leaking from around the gasket, be sure to inspect it for damage or cracks, and ensure it is fitted properly to the turbocharger. It's important to diagnose and repair a turbocharger oil leak, as it can cause irreversible damage to the turbocharger and a costly repair. If you are upgrading to a turbocharged system or repairing your turbocharger, be sure to also replace the turbo gaskets. Using the correct gasket that matches the specific turbocharger model ensures a proper fit, effective sealing, and optimal performance. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we carry a variety of turbocharger parts, including gaskets and intercooler hoses for most turbocharged engine applications.
