What is a Wheel Lock Kit?

A wheel lock or locking lug nut is intended to protect your wheels from being stolen. A set of locking lug nuts are used to install the wheel like normal, but one or more of the lug nuts on each wheel requires a special socket to be installed or removed. Without this socket, the protective lug nuts cannot be as easily removed, deterring theft to keep your wheels safe. This special socket is included with a locking lug nut set, and should be kept in the vehicle or somewhere secure in case of a flat tire. Many locking lug nuts are designed with an outside edge that is round rather than multi-sided or hex, and will only pair with a uniquely-shaped key to be removed. Others are designed with a "keyed" outside edge that can only be removed with a specialty keyed socket. Even when using locking lug nuts, it's important to still ensure that your lug nuts are torqued to specification to prevent the wheel from loosening over time. No matter the design, size, color, or style, locking lug nut kits are a great addition to keep your wheels safe. Find the wheel lock kits, lug wrenches, torque wrenches, and more that you need to install your locking lug nuts at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
