TPMS, Tire, and Wheel Tools
No one likes having a flat tire or a blowout while driving down the road. If equipped, the TPMS system on your vehicle can alert you to a potentially dangerous driving situation. Tire and wheel tools can help you maintain the pressure in your tires, as well as allowing you to service and maintain your wheels, tires, and more.
TPMS System Basics
The TPMS system monitors the pressure in each of your tires and alerts you when the pressure drops below the programmed level for your vehicle. When the tire pressure is too low, the TPMS sensor sends an alert signal which usually appears on the dash. Some TPMS systems allow you to also see the current pressure for each tire on your dashboard, which can help you maintain the correct pressure and extend the life of your tires. Under- or over-inflated tires can cause a loss of traction and control, and may also cause the tires to wear unevenly or prematurely.
The Right Tools for Tires
Replacing a TPMS sensor can be a daunting task and requires special tools to complete the repair. Most TPMS sensors require the tire to be at least partially removed from the wheel. This takes special equipment to separate the tire from the wheel, and often, this will have to be done at a professional tire shop. After a TPMS sensor is replaced, it must be connected and synced to the TPMS system using a special activation tool. Other tools such as lug wrenches, tire chucks and inflators, tire irons, and more can help you keep your tires inflated, your wheels connected to your hubs, and your vehicle driving down the road.
