What is a TPMS Service Kit?

Your vehicle's tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) relies on sensors designed to alert you to any problems with your tire pressure level. The sensors read the air pressure inside each tire and send information to the vehicle's computer or body control unit, which is then communicated to the driver via a display on the instrument panel, a dashboard warning light, or other means. Each sensor is built into the wheel's valve stem, or is attached securely to the inside of the wheel. TPMS sensors each contain a small battery and a wireless transmitter to send each tire's pressure readings to the vehicle's computer. If the batteries inside your TPMS sensors die, the sensor will not be able transmit pressure readings. TPMS sensor hardware can also suffer damage that can lead to leaks through or around the valve stem, and this may mean that the sensor itself does not need to be replaced. In some cases, you may be able to repair your TPMS sensor using a TPMS service kit.
