The tie rod ends on your Nissan Altima attach the rack and pinion unit or the steering linkage to the steering knuckle. Tie rods have a ball and socket design that allows the tie rod to move along with the suspension. Tie rod ends also help to align the front end and most have threads to allow for this adjustment. Many Altimas use both an inner and outer tie rod end, with the inner tie rod being attached to the steering rack and the outer attached to the steering knuckle. Signs that your Nissan Altima may need a replacement tie rod end include excessive or uneven tire wear, a shaky or loose steering wheel, or poor alignment. You may also hear clunking noises when steering if the tie rod joint has become very loose. If your Nissan Altima needs replacement tie rod ends, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a wide selection of suspension parts and the tools you need to do the job.
