Chassis and Suspension Repair Parts
Chassis parts are designed to ensure the steering and suspension of your vehicle works its best to provide a smooth and comfortable ride. In many cases, chassis parts are not considered during daily driving until there is a problem. Different parts of the suspension and steering systems should be inspected and serviced or greased regularly, but many parts are not serviceable and must be replaced when they begin to wear out or fail. If you experience any clunking noises or vibrations in your steering or suspension, O'Reilly Auto Parts has you covered with the right chassis parts for your repair.
Control Arms
Control arms connect the frame to the steering and suspension systems on a vehicle, allowing the wheels to turn and move up and down at the same time. Many vehicles are equipped with upper and lower control arms to allow the wheels full range of motion while driving. If the bushings or ball joints on the control arm wear out, you may notice clunking noises or vibrations as you turn or go over bumps. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries full control arm assemblies, as well as replacement ball joints and bushings for almost any control arm repair.
Ball Joints and Tie Rods
The upper and lower ball joints are pressed into the control arm assembly and provide a pivot point for the steering knuckle, and the tie rods connect to the steering linkage to transfer the left and right steering movement to the wheels. If either of these components wear out or fail, you may notice loose steering or clunking noises while turning or driving over bumps or rough terrain. If a tie rod or ball joint suddenly fails, you may lose the ability to steer your vehicle, so replacing a worn steering component should be a priority at the first signs of wear.
Chassis and Suspension Bushings
Bushings are used as flexible contact points for many chassis parts to absorb and reduce bumps, vibrations, and noise. Most bushings are not serviceable and must be replaced when they wear out. As they wear you may notice clunking or rattling noises under braking, while steering through a turn, or driving over bumps or on rough roads. These symptoms are similar to other steering and suspension failures, so you may need to visually inspect bushings to confirm they need to be replaced.
