1997 Ford F-150 - Track/Panhard Bar
Ford F-Series Track and Panhard Bars
The track bar for your Ford F-Series, also called a panhard bar, prevents the axles from moving side to side and is commonly found in coil spring suspension systems. Track bars attach the axle to the opposite side of the frame to stabilize your steering and prevent the axle from shifting under the body. Track bars may also include bushings or joints on either end to keep the bar tight against the frame and axle. With regular use, the panhard bar can be damaged, leading to a bent track bar or a worn bushing. If you have a failed panhard bar, then you may have excess vibrations and loose steering in your Ford truck. You may also notice wobbling when traveling at faster speeds, or noises when driving slowly or going over rough terrain. Inspect the track bar for damage and looseness, and if needed, replace the bar to restore your handling.
