2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Lift Support
Hood, Trunk, and Rear Hatch Lift Supports
Lift supports are gas-charged cylinders located near the hinges of your hood, trunk lid, or rear glass designed to to lift the panel and keep it in the upright position. This is especially important for heavy panels like the hood, since the lift supports allow it to be raised and support it while you work underneath. Because they are charged with gas and sealed, leaks can eventually form around the rod of the lift support with use and over time. This reduces the amount of pressure inside the lift support and limits its ability to hold the panel up. When a lift support fails, it will often struggle to hold the weight of the panel, and may cause the panel to slowly lower or slam without warning. If your hood, trunk, or rear hatch can't be raised easily or stay open, then you may need a new set of lift supports. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries new lift supports in a variety of lengths for hoods, deck lids, rear hatch glass, and more for most vehicles to help you restore comfort and safety.
