What Controls Power Seats?

The power seat switch on your vehicle is a comfort setting component which allows you to adjust your seat to the most comfortable, safe sitting position. The power seat switch is usually located on the lower side panel of your seat near the door. When the button is pressed or moved, a signal is sent to a small electronic motor that adjusts, tilts, raises, or lowers the seat to your preferred position. In some vehicles, there is more than one power seat switch to adjust a variety of seat settings. Over time, the internal contacts in your power seat switch can wear down, or may suffer corrosion that prevents it from making a connection to control one or more seat settings. If your seat does not move at all when you press the button, moves unusually slow, only moves occasionally or in one direction, or stops before it reaches its intended position, you might need to replace your power seat switch. In some cases, the power seat may not be able to move if debris is stuck in the tracks or if there are other items in its way, and this resistance can burn out the power seat motor. Before replacing your power seat switch, it is also recommended that you check for a blown fuse or damaged relay, and ensure the power seat motor is still operational. If both of those components are working properly, but your power seats are still not moving, it might be time to replace the power seat switch. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries replacement power seat switches, fuses, and motors for most cars, trucks, and SUVs.
