1989 Toyota MR2 - Underhood Light Bulb
What is the Light Bulb Under the Hood?
Some vehicles are equipped with a small light bulb underneath the hood, typically attached to the underside of the hood and activated by a switch when the hood is raised. The underhood light bulb is helpful in low-light conditions to illuminate the engine compartment, making it easier to complete any needed repairs or inspections in the dark. Over time, underhood light bulbs can burn out or be damaged by oil or fluid contamination, corrosion, or heat, and might need to be replaced. If your underhood light bulb is not damaged or has been replaced but still doesn't illuminate, socket corrosion, blown fuses, shorted or damaged wiring, or a poor ground connection could also be to blame. Before replacing the underhood light bulb, inspect the socket and wiring to determine the cause of the problem. Though this light isn't necessary for safe driving, it makes any time spent under the hood after dark less frustrating and is often a simple repair. If you need a replacement underhood light bulb, or if you need to repair or replace the bulb socket or wiring, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries replacement parts and lighting needs for most vehicles.
