What is a Side Marker Light Socket?

The side marker lights on your vehicle help to keep you visible to other drivers in low light. Side marker lights are usually located on the side of your vehicle near the front and rear, and are designed to increase the vehicle's visibility in dark and low-light conditions. Side marker lights also indicate the length of the vehicle to help other drivers understand its size and better estimate the type of vehicle and anticipate how it may move. Side marker lights illuminate when the running lights or headlights are turned on, but in some cases, they may also flash in time with the turn signals. When your side marker light stops working, a burned-out bulb is often the cause of the problem, but side marker light sockets may also be damaged in some cases. If your side marker light bulbs are intact or have recently been replaced, but your side marker lights are still not working correctly, check the condition of the side marker light socket. In some cases, corrosion in the socket may be to blame, and it should be cleaned or replaced to restore proper lighting performance. If you need a new side marker light bulb or socket, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts to see all of our marker bulb and socket options.
