What is a Reverse Light Socket?

The backup lights on your vehicle, also known as reverse lights, indicate to other drivers that your vehicle is in Reverse and that you intend to back up. Backup lights help improve driver visibility when reversing and are an important safety feature on your vehicle. Reverse light sockets maintain contact between the wiring harness and the reverse light bulb to ensure it receives power as needed to illuminate. If the reverse light bulb burns out or is damaged, it should be replaced as soon as possible to ensure your safety, the safety of other drivers on the road, and to keep your car legal to operate. If a new bulb won't illuminate, is dim or flashing, or will only work intermittently, there may be a problem with the reverse light relay or backup light socket. The socket may also be damaged in the event of an accident or due to corrosion, and may no longer maintain a good connection with the bulb. If the reverse light assembly is cracked or damaged, moisture and debris can cause reverse light socket damage that prevents power from reaching the bulb as it should. If your reverse lights aren't working correctly but your bulb is intact, inspect the reverse light socket for any signs of damage and replace it if it is severely corroded, melted, damaged, or otherwise not making a connection with the bulb.
