The ABS (anti-lock braking system) uses speed sensors attached to the wheel end or hub assembly to monitor the vehicle's wheel speed. This data is processed by the ABS control module, which determines the appropriate amount of braking pressure for each wheel to prevent wheel lock-up or traction loss. The ABS speed sensors may also be used to calculate your vehicle's speed and feed this information to your speedometer. Over time, the ABS sensors on your vehicle may be damaged or wear out and fail to send accurate signals to the ABS module or computer. If your ABS wheel speed sensor is failing, the ABS warning light on your dash may activate, and this may also cause longer braking times, loss of stability on wet or icy roads, and the ABS system to not engage or disengage correctly. You may also notice erratic or inaccurate speedometer readings depending on which one or how many of your ABS speed sensors are not working, depending on the vehicle design. When you need to repair your vehicle's ABS system, O'Reilly Auto Parts has the right replacement ABS wheel speed sensors, ABS control modules, and other ABS brake components for most vehicles on the road.
