What is a Headlight Lens Assembly?

The headlight lens assemblies on your vehicle are vital to your safety, and are designed to increase your visibility while driving in the dark or in harsh weather conditions. The headlight assembly houses the headlight bulbs, as well as the casing and lens responsible for protecting your headlight bulbs against damage and reflecting their light down the road. Your vehicle's headlight lens shields the bulbs from potentially damaging debris or harmful elements, including insects and contaminants that could break the bulb or reduce its lifespan. Over the life of your vehicle, it is common for plastic headlight assembly lenses to become foggy or chalky, and this may impair your visibility. If the headlight assembly is damaged, condensation can form behind the headlight lens, creating moisture buildup inside the assembly that could damage the bulb. This cloudy appearance of your headlight lens is typically caused by oxidation from sun exposure, debris buildup, or water droplets turning to a vapor inside of the lens. Your headlight assembly can also be damaged in an accident or due to especially harsh contact, which may scratch, crack, or shatter the headlight assembly. Operating your vehicle in low-light conditions with any headlight lens or bulb damage can be dangerous, as it not only reduces your visibility, but can also prevent your vehicle from being seen as easily by other drivers. If your headlight lens assembly is damaged, it is important to repair or replace the assembly as soon as possible to maintain your safety on the road. O'Reilly Auto Parts carries the headlight lenses, headlight assembly kits, and replacement headlight bulbs you need for your next headlight repair.
