Performance Spark Plug Wire Benefits

A performance spark plug wire set includes specially designed spark plug wires to enhance the performance of a vehicle's ignition system and better handle the load of a high-performance engine. Also known as ignition cables, spark plug wires transfer the spark from the coil to the spark plug, either from a remote coil pack or a distributor. In cases where a distributor and a single ignition coil are used, performance spark plug wire sets will typically include a replacement coil wire in addition to the spark plug wires. High-performance spark plug wires are often more durable than OE spark plug wires, and may feature upgraded conductive and insulating materials, making them a great upgrade when installed with other performance spark plugs or ignition components. Performance spark plug wires are often used in high-performance or racing applications, but they can also provide more consistent power delivery to the spark plugs for street use or on a daily driver.

Spark plug wires can wear out with time and use, or may be damaged if they contact other parts of the engine. This can cause wear to the outer insulation of the wire, allowing power to arc to any ground point in the engine compartment and preventing it from reaching the spark plugs themselves. Signs that your spark plug wires may need to be replaced include difficulty starting your vehicle, misfires, reduced fuel economy, a rough idle, and a general loss of power. When it's time to replace your spark plug wires, or if you want to upgrade your ignition system, consider a set of performance spark plug wires to ensure the best possible ignition system operation. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we offer a selection of performance spark plug wire sets, spark plugs, high-output ignition coils, and more, and can help you find the best options for your vehicle.
