The Ford F-Series truck's distributor is a part of the ignition system on older models, and sends power to the spark plugs using a distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires, along with an ignition coil. The distributor is turned using a gear attached to a rod powered by the camshaft, which keeps the cam and distributor in sync to create proper ignition timing for combustion. While distributors tend to be very reliable and durable, they can wear out with time.
