Volkswagen Beetle Ignition Coil

The ignition coil on your Volkswagen Beetle is an electrical transformer used to increase the 12-volt power of your car into several thousand volts so the spark plugs can ignite the fuel mixture. If you have an older model Volkswagen, it often has a single ignition coil that works with the distributor to send power to the appropriate spark plug. Newer models have individual coils attached to each spark plug in a coil-on-plug setup. In this case, the ignition coils are controlled electronically by the engine computer for precise ignition timing and optimum performance. With time, ignition coils can become weak or they can fail entirely. Common signs of a coil problem on your Beetle include poor fuel economy, backfiring, misfiring, stalling, lack of power, or jerking during acceleration. The Check Engine light may also turn on if a misfire or other engine problem caused by the coil is detected. If your VW Beetle needs a replacement ignition coil, spark plugs, or other ignition parts, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries all the tune-up and ignition parts you required for a complete repair.
