Pins, Clips, and Fasteners

Hardware like pins, clips, and Woodruff keys are integral to the safe assembly and use of your vehicle. Cotter pins are among the most common types of pins found on a vehicle, and are used in conjunction with castle nuts to lock suspension connections in place and prevent the nut from backing off over time. Cotter pins are simply installed between the gaps in the castle nut and the ends are bent to prevent the pin from freeing itself and allowing the nut to loosen. Hair pins are also frequently used to secure cable connections by inserting the straight side of the pin through a hole and pressing the pin over the shaft to lock it in place. Woodruff keys are also used on crankshafts and camshafts to ensure proper alignment of pulleys to maintain timing, and may need to be replaced if they have worn down or become loose.

Pins for Towing and Industrial Use

Pins and related hardware are also commonly used in towing and agricultural applications to allow items to be connected temporarily and removed more easily. Draw pins are designed for use with PTO-driven and hydraulic equipment, and are designed to fit the complementary receiver on a tractor or other machinery. These pins are designed with a hole to receive a linch pin, which uses a spring-tensioned ring to snap over the end of the draw pin and remain in place until you are ready for it to be removed and the equipment unhooked. Linch pins also have a variety of other uses, including connecting and securing trailers, locking hitch pins, or even for temporarily latching doors.

A clevis hook and clevis pin is another tool with a variety of uses.
