Ford Focus Fuel Tank Strap

The fuel tank straps keep the fuel tank on your Ford Focus in place and connected to the chassis. Tank straps are usually made from flexible metal and have bolts or studs at the ends to secure or tighten the tank against the frame. Their location on the bottom of your Focus makes the fuel tank straps more vulnerable to damage, such as rust, which can weaken the integrity of the strap and lead to failure. This may cause additional damage to the fuel tank, pump, or fuel lines on your Focus, as the fuel tank may be able to move more than it should. If you hear clunking or squeaking from the back end of your Focus while driving, then you may have a failing or loose fuel tank strap. Check to see if the straps are loose and ensure that the connecting bolts or tabs are still intact. You may be able to tighten the bolts or nuts that secure the fuel tank straps in order to fix the problem. If the straps themselves are rusted or damaged severely, then you may need to replace them.
