What is a Throttle Body Mounting Gasket?

The throttle body gasket seals your throttle body to the intake or intake plenum. This prevents air or debris from leaking between the throttle body and the plenum, which could cause engine damage or a lean fuel mixture. Throttle body gaskets should be replaced any time the throttle body is removed for cleaning or service, and reusing an old throttle body gasket may not seal the connection appropriately. Due to high heat, the throttle body gasket may deteriorate and wear out over time. A failed throttle body gasket can cause too much air to enter the intake, which can lead to the engine running lean, meaning there is more air than fuel in the combustion mixture. This can also cause the engine to burn more fuel to compensate for high oxygen concentration, leading to a reduction in gas mileage. A damaged throttle body gasket may also result in high idle, poor accelerator response, or can allow debris to enter the engine's intake, damaging internal components. Over time, lean fuel mixtures and high idle can burn your pistons and rings, causing engine failure. If you replace or repair your throttle body, don't forget to replace the throttle body gasket for a complete repair. At O'Reilly Auto Parts, we carry replacement throttle bodies, throttle body cleaner, and new throttle body gaskets for your vehicle to help you restore its performance and efficiency.
