The Ford Mustang's intake plenum is found between the intake manifold and the throttle body and splits the air to be sent to each individual cylinder after it passes through the throttle body. The plenum is sealed using gaskets against the throttle body and the intake manifold. With time, the plenum gaskets may fail and allow outside air to enter the engine. This air has bypassed the air filter and the MAF sensor, which means that not only can this unfiltered air contain debris that can cause engine damage, but the computer may create a lean running condition because it doesn't know that this air has entered the system. With time, a lean running condition can also cause serious engine damage, or may produce a rough or high idle, stalling, misfires, and other performance issues. If you need a replacement plenum gasket to seal your engine's vacuum leaks, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries plenum gasket sets for your Ford Mustang, which contain all the gaskets needed to seal the throttle body and intake plenum and restore your performance.
