What is an EFI Pressure Sensor?

The electronic fuel injection pressure (EFI) sensor, also called a fuel rail sensor or a fuel pressure sensor, measures the fuel pressure in the fuel rail and communicates this information to the engine control unit (ECU). The control module uses this data to adjust and optimize fuel delivery to the engine, ensuring efficient combustion, performance, and a reduction of excess fuel in the fuel rail. This can result in lower emissions, and helps prevent excessive fuel pressure or fuel cycling. The EFI pressure sensor can be located in the fuel rail or along the fuel line, close to the engine's intake manifold. In some vehicles, it can also be integrated into the fuel pump assembly, and this may require complete fuel pump replacement if the sensor has failed. If the fuel pressure sensor is weak or is no longer producing an adequate signal, it can cause a loss of power, acceleration, and fuel efficiency. This may also result in hard starts or trigger the Check Engine light. If you've determined that you need to replace your vehicle's EFI pressure sensor, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for replacement fuel pressure sensors and fuel delivery components to help you make a complete repair. You can also stop by your local O'Reilly store for free Check Engine light testing and diagnosis to help start your repairs off right.
