Transmission Detent/Kickdown Cable

The detent cable or linkage connects a vehicle's carburetor or throttle body to the transmission. Also called a kickdown, the detent cable activates at full throttle to shift the transmission into a lower gear. This is especially useful when climbing hills or needing to quickly accelerate to pass someone on the highway.
