The carburetor controls the fuel and air mixture in older model vehicles, and some carburetors are also equipped with a power valve. The power valve operates during full throttle or other low-vacuum situations like towing or climbing hills. When the engine is running under load, the power valve opens to allow additional fuel into the main power circuit. This enriches the fuel content and helps the engine create the additional power needed to perform appropriately.
