What is an Exhaust Intermediate Pipe?

The exhaust system in your vehicle is made up of several interconnected parts to keep exhaust flowing away from the engine and cabin and out of the vehicle. These can include the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, resonator, and muffler. An exhaust intermediate pipe is used to connect all of these parts together. An exhaust intermediate pipe connects between two parts of your vehicle's exhaust system, and is typically secured with a flange or flare and bolts or studs on either end to keep them connected. The exhaust intermediate pipe may also include baffling, heat shielding, or exhaust hangers depending on the vehicle. Due to its location on your vehicle, climate and environmental factors can have an effect on your exhaust system, and road salt, moisture, or debris can lead to rust and corrosion. When this happens, you may notice exhaust leaks or the exhaust moving beneath the vehicle, which can quickly cause damage to other parts of the system. If you need an exhaust intermediate pipe or other exhaust component, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for your complete exhaust repair.
