The main shaft in a manual transmission combines the functions of the input and output shaft. The input shaft receives power from the engine and transfers it the output shaft, which supplies the power to the drive shaft or CV shafts. This powers the differential, which transfers power to your wheels. The main shaft seal ensures that the main shaft and main shaft bearing can remain lubricated and moving smoothly. If you notice leaks, grinding, or clunking noises while shifting, check the transmission fluid levels. If they are low, check the main shaft bearing and the transmission main shaft seal.
