Automatic Transmission Temperature Sensor Replacement

An automatic transmission temperature sensor is a component of the transmission that monitors the fluid temperature to prevent damage to the vehicle's transmission. High temperatures can burn your transmission fluid and make it less effective at lubricating and cooling the transmission. As the transmission fluid temperature increases, measurements are communicated to the engine control unit (ECU) or transmission control module, which then adjusts the shift points to allow for smoother shifting and to prevent damage due to overheating. If the transmission temperature sensor fails, it may result in incorrect readings being sent to the computer, which can cause transmission problems such as harsh shifting or incorrect shift points. An overheating transmission can often be a symptom of a larger issue as well, and should be properly diagnosed before completing the repair to ensure that the transmission temperature sensor is the source of the problem. If your Check Engine warning light is on, stop by O'Reilly Auto Parts for a free Check Engine light diagnosis. We also carry a selection of replacement automatic transmission sensors for many makes and models to help you make a complete repair.
