Your Jeep Wrangler's shift cable connects the transmission with your Jeep's shifter to allow you to control transmission gear selection from inside your SUV. Movement transfers through the transmission shift cable, adjusting the shift arm on the transmission to the desired gear. Over time, the shift cable can stretch, break, or wear out. When this happens, the shift cable on your Wrangler may seem too loose and not lock into position correctly due to improper alignment between the shift gates and the shift arm on the transmission. While your Wrangler may still drive, a misadjusted shift cable can become dangerous if your transmission is able to slip slip out of gear during operation. Inspect the shift cable, and if it is unable to be adjusted, you may need to replace it. Turn to O'Reilly Auto Parts for the shift cables, shift cable bushings and other transmission parts you need for your Jeep Wrangler.
