Transmission Cooler Kits

The automatic transmission oil cooler is a heat exchanger located toward the front of your vehicle that is designed to cool the transmission fluid. If the transmission fluid becomes too hot, it can break down and lose its lubricating properties, leading to increased wear and tear on transmission components and potential transmission failure. The automatic transmission oil cooler helps to prevent fluid overheating by dissipating the heat generated by the transmission fluid. It does so by routing the transmission fluid through a series of small tubes or passages in the cooler, which is surrounded by fins. As the transmission fluid flows through the cooler, it is exposed to the cooler's fins, which dissipate the heat and lower the fluid's temperature. An automatic transmission oil cooler is commonly found on towing or heavy-duty use vehicles, as these vehicles generate more heat and require additional cooling capacity to maintain proper transmission function. However, it can also be added as an aftermarket component to improve transmission performance and longevity. Over time, your transmission oil cooler can be damaged by corrosion or road debris, which may lead to leaks or clogs that can prevent fluid from flowing freely to and from the transmission. If you notice your vehicle is leaking transmission fluid near the cooler it can indicate an issue with the cooler or transmission, but it is important to inspect the transmission cooler, hoses, fittings, and any other connecting points to ensure the cooler itself requires replacement. When you need to repair or add an aftermarket transmission cooler, O'Reilly Auto Parts carries new automatic transmission oil coolers and kits for most vehicles.
