What is a Transmission Oil Cooler Hose?

Vehicles equipped with an auxiliary transmission oil cooler or transmission cooling capabilities built into the radiator allow the fluid to be cooled by circulating oil between the oil cooler and the automatic transmission. This circulation helps prevent the transmission fluid from overheating, which is imperative during towing when the load on the transmission is greater than normal use. Most vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions have transmission cooling lines that run to the radiator to cool the fluid. Vehicles equipped with an auxiliary transmission cooler instead mount the cooler unit in front of the radiator by itself. The fluid is moved to and from the cooler using hoses and hard lines to prevent leaks and allow movement as necessary while the engine operates. When a transmission oil cooler hose or line fails or clogs, it can cause fluid leaks or obstructions that may lead to an overheating transmission. Low fluid levels may also cause the transmission to not shift correctly, and the excessive heat and friction generated by low fluid levels during transmission operation can eventually cause damage and failure. If you find a transmission fluid leak or see a leak from your transmission lines, you may have a damaged transmission cooler hose. If you need a replacement transmission cooler hose or other cooling lines, check out the selection of repair parts at O'Reilly Auto Parts. We carry transmission oil cooler hoses and line assemblies for many vehicles to help keep your vehicle operating at its best.
