A differential cover plug, also known as a differential fill or drain plug, is used to service the fluid inside the differential without removing the differential cover. These plugs may be threaded metal parts, or press-in rubber seals. If you need to change the fluid in your differential, this is a great time to inspect the condition of your plug and threads before reinstalling the plug and refilling the fluid. A rubber plug may wear out, shrink, or crack over time, which may cause leaks. If you notice leaks or if you hear grinding or howling noises from the rear of the vehicle, the fluid in the differential may have leaked out. This can cause excessive wear and damage to the differential. If you need differential parts, fluid, or a differential cover plug, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts.
