An oil pump shaft, often called an oil pump intermediate shaft, connects the oil pump to the distributor in a vehicle. When the engine is running, a gear on the camshaft spins the distributor, which also drives the oil pump shaft. This creates oil pressure and distributes the oil throughout the engine to keep internal parts lubricated.
