2000 Chevrolet Blazer - Valve Cover Grommet
Replacing a Valve Cover Grommet Gasket
A valve cover grommet gasket, also simply called a valve cover grommet, is a component used to provide a secure seal between the valve cover and the PCV valve, breather valve, or other components that are installed in the top of the cover. Designed to fit snugly into the opening or openings of the valve cover, the grommets help prevent leaks around the breather or PCV valve. Over time, these rubber grommets can suffer damage or dry out and become brittle, which can cause oil leaks. If you notice oil leaking from around your valve cover grommets, they may have failed and should be inspected or replaced. Oil leaks from the valve cover can cause low engine oil levels, grease buildup, or fires in the engine compartment if the oil comes in contact with the hot exhaust manifold. When replacing a valve cover grommet, it may be necessary to remove the valve cover from the engine. If that is the case, it is a good idea to also replace the valve cover gaskets to ensure a complete and effective seal. This helps maintain the integrity of the valve cover assembly and prevents oil from leaking onto the engine or surrounding components.
