Nissan Altima Crankshaft Seal

The crankshaft seal on your Nissan Altima is the main barrier that prevents oil from leaking around the end of the crankshaft and out of the crankcase. It's found on the front of the engine, often installed in the timing cover, and surrounds the harmonic balancer. Most engines require you to remove the belts, pulley, harmonic balancer, and timing cover before replacing the seal if it has suffered damage. Over time, the crankshaft seal can become dried out, break, or become hard or brittle and cause wear on your Altima's crankshaft or balancer. This lets excess clearance form, which can lead to an oil leak. If you have a bad crankshaft seal, then you may notice oil puddles under the vehicle when parked, which will only become worse until the problem is fixed. If left unchecked, the lack of oil can lead to severe damage to the engine. Shop O'Reilly Auto Parts for a replacement crankshaft seal for your Nissan Altima, as well as timing cover gaskets and other parts to maintain your car's oil leaks.
