Jeep Wrangler Rear Main Seal

In the rear of your Jeep Wrangler's engine, the crankshaft exits the block, which means it must be sealed to prevent oil leaks. This seal is called the rear main seal or the crankshaft seal. Rear main seals can be made of silicone or rubber, and with time and exposure to heat and oil, the seal may degrade. This causes engine oil leaks. If you see an oil leak near the rear of the engine or if you see oil dripping off of the oil pan near the back or between the engine and transmission, it could be due to a failing rear main seal. Other oil leaks, such as those around the oil pan or the valve cover gaskets, may sometimes be mistaken for a rear main seal leak. If you need to replace the rear main seal of your Wrangler, or if you need a valve cover or oil pan gasket, shop O'Reilly Auto Parts to find the right parts for your repair.
