When your Jeep Wrangler has an oil change, the engine oil is drained by removing the oil drain plug. This plug is a large metal bolt that is located at the bottom of the engine oil pan. The oil drain plug sometimes uses a washer or gasket to prevent it from leaking. If you see a leak from the oil plug, it could simply be loose, or it might need a new gasket. Sometimes, the oil drain plug is damaged when it is overtightened or if it is cross-threaded. If the threads in the oil pan itself are damaged, you can usually repair this by using an oversized oil drain plug that will make new threads as it is installed. The oil pan itself rarely needs to be removed or replaced simply because of a leaking oil drain plug. Stop by O'Reilly's Auto Parts for a new drain plug or gasket for your Wrangler.
